U14 Girls maintain strong start

Brent U14 Girls 3-0 Highgate Wood

This match was a coming together of two teams who went into the match undefeated this season and with neither side having conceded a goal.

Brent piled the pressure onto Highgate from the start, rapidly winning three corners within the first five minutes and on the third corner taken by right winger Adele Rosca, midfielder Zoey De Souza Mantas was quickest and sharply turned the ball in. 1-0.

Subsequent chances fell to Rosca and Finlay Cottle both of whom were denied by good goalkeeping in the Highgate goal.

The Brent defence, led by Tashelle Redhead, were gambling on playing a high line which paid off as they were able to catch the Highgate forwards offside a couple of times as the game ran towards half time.

Within seven minutes of the second half starting, Zoey De Souza Mantas had her brace and Brent’s second goal, receiving a through ball from forward Evie Roe and shooting powerfully from distance, evading the goalkeeper’s dive.

Highgate looked to get back into the game but their attempts on goal were either saved by Maria Gooding or thwarted by the solid defensive work of Scarlett Hunn and Tallulah Swaby, who both consistently won their foot races against formidable strikers.

With fifteen minutes remaining, Brent put the game beyond Highgate by scoring a third goal. Eabha Kennedy advanced down the wing and squared to De Souza Mantas who unselfishly laid the ball off to Roe to thrash the ball in, a well deserved goal for Roe after working hard all game. To preserve the clean sheet Roe and Rosca were replaced by the defensive minded Willow Stone and Issy Sirkett.

Brent maintain their perfect start to the season, 3 wins and no goals conceded.
