BRENT’S girls made history by winning the London Youth Games football competition for the first time.
TFL have renamed a train line the Lioness line to honour the success of the team and the lasting impact they have had inspiring women and girls to play the beautiful game. In recognition of the role Brent has played Brent Under 11 Girls were invited to take part in the celebrations. The Brent girls played in thrilling 3-2 internal friendly game at Regents Park. After the match former Lioness Ellen Maggs was on hand to have a Q and A and present mementos to the girls.
Ellen , who won nine caps playing for England, shared stories of her journey and how proud she was to wear the England shirts. Maggs was presented with a special England cap to mark the occasion confirming that she was the 149th Lioness and a trail blazer for the current generation.
Female referee and FA mentor of the year Surekha Griffiths officiated and after the game and also shared stories of her journey into referring and football.

Living in Brent we use this line all the time and it will be a constant reminder of their contribution to football and sport in general. Having a Lioness in Ellen and Surekha here made it an unforgettable celebration”
